The costs of mismatching a student to the wrong tuition centres in
Serangoon are huge. Couple that with the sheer number of tuition centres
and offerings available in Serangoon and you have yourself a huge
question: Where do I begin?
When a mismatch occurs, parents will
not only have spent hundreds of dollars, but also would have invested a
lot of time. Inevitably, it takes numerous tries for some parents and
several tuition centres in Serangoon to find the right fit for their
child. On top of that, the child would have spent lots of time trying to
adjust to the new tuition centre in Serangoon, only to be told that he
would have to go through the process of orientation all over again. Everybody wants the right fit. What will this take?
First
and foremost, it must be acknowledged that there is no one tuition
centre in Serangoon that is able to handle the wide range of students.
Some deal primarily with top students, while others, focus on motivating
the students and so on. In order for the parent to make an informed
choice, it is important that the parent takes into consideration the
following factors when picking the right tuition centre in Serangoon for
your child. 1) Class size of the classes at the Serangoon tuition centre
How many will my child be comfortable with in a tuition group? 5, 8, 10, or 13?
Class
size is important because the more the number of students, the lesser
the time that each student has with the tuition teacher. In other words,
individualised attention is indirectly proportional to the tuition
class size. The bigger the tuition class, the lesser the attention each
individual student gets with the tuition teacher. 2) Credibility of the Serangoon tuition centre
Some
things to look out for are how long the tuition centre has been around
in Serangoon. Are they new? Some tuition centres are MOE accredited
while others aren’t. 3) Methodology of the Serangoon tuition centre
It
is important to find out more about the methodology of each tuition
centre as different tuition centres in Serangoon implement different
methodologies for their students. Is there a system that is being used?
What are some of the features or highlights of these systems? Are the
lessons engaging? How exactly are lessons held? 4) Proven Results
What
is the track record of the students at the Serangoon tuition centre? Is
the tuition centre in Serangoon producing great results every year?
What are some of the success stories at the Serangoon tuition centre? 5) Level of individualised attention
Different
tuition centres in Serangoon will be able to provide different levels
of individualised attention. Ensure that you know how much
individualised attention your child needs and work out if the tuition
centre in Serangoon is able to provide the individualised attention that
he needs. A centre with 13 students per group may not be able to
provide a high level of individualised attention to each and every
individual student. 6) Intention of sending your child to a tuition centre in Serangoon
Do
you send your child to tuition so that he may catch up, keep up or stay
ahead of his fellow classmates in school? Different students go to
tuition centres in Serangoon for different reasons. More importantly,
different tuition centres in Serangoon have different systems in place
to cater to the differing needs of students and parents. Be sure to
check if the intention of sending your child to tuition centres in
Serangoon matches the capabilities of the tuition centre.
Moreover,
are there any specific areas of improvement that you wish for the
Serangoon tuition centre to cover with the child? The tuition centre
should be made aware of such requests and should be able to address such
requests. 7) Materials
The education
syllabus is constantly revising itself. Is the Serangoon tuition centre
up to date on these changes or are they still stuck on an old unrevised
syllabus. Some changes can be drastic while others can be less so.
Changes can be even a restructuring of the grading system or a change in
the exam format. Materials that the Serangoon tuition centres use
should reflect such changes in the curriculum. 8) Updates by tuition teachers
Does
the Serangoon tuition centre give updates to parents frequently on the
progress of the child? To what extent is the tuition teacher able to do
so. Other factors come into play too, like the amount of individualised
attention that the Serangoon tuition centre is able to render to each
child. Has the tuition teacher been able to identify the strengths and
weaknesses of the child? What are some new insights that the tuition
teacher has been able to give you as the parent? 9) Clear strategy
Is
there a clear strategy for the child to go from where he is now to
where he wants to be? Many students attending group tuition have no
choice but to follow a standardised curriculum or risk being left
behind. A clear strategy should be mapped out so that you as a parent
should be able to see how long it will take for your child to achieve
his goals. Any changes to this plan should be updated by the teacher as
soon as possible to avoid any further issues. This should take into
account the strengths and weaknesses being identified along with areas
of improvement. 10) Comfort of the Serangoon tuition centre
A
lot that has to do with comfort depends on the feel of the place. Does
it look comfortable and conducive for learning? Are the tables too
small? Is it too much of a squeeze as a result of there being too many
students in each Serangoon tuition class? These may be small factors but
they add up to provide the cumulative experience. The child should want
to come to the centre and more importantly, he or she should feel
comfortable. 11) Within your budget
Tuition
in Serangoon is an ongoing process of helping the student to maximise
his or her learning potential. Make sure to get a tuition centre in
Serangoon that charges affordable fees depending on your spending
capacity. Other things to find out are whether there are any hidden
costs. What happens if there are 5 of the same days in the month? What
about public holidays? Is there a material fee? 12 ) Know your own expectations.
Very
much in line with your intention of sending your child for tuition in
Serangoon above, it is imperative that you are aware of what your
expectations are of the tuition centre and your child. Are you expecting
the Serangoon tuition centre to do a miracle such that your child goes
from an F to an A in a matter of a few months? Or are you hoping for
your child to start loving a subject that he has been despising all
along? Alternatively, it could be that you are expecting the Serangoon
tuition centre to be able to improve the confidence of your child in a
particular subject.
It could also be that you are expecting the
Serangoon tuition centre to maintain your child’s grades. Or is your
expectation for the Serangoon tuition centre to be able to deliver an A*
for a respective subject for each examination?
Some parents also
expect for the tuition centre in Serangoon to be able to motivate their
child. This might not be in line with a tuition centre that already
expects the child to be self-motivated. Tuition centres in Serangoon
that incorporate motivating a child have clearly different strategies. 13 ) Know your child’s expectations
Does
your child know what he is going to tuition in Serangoon for? Does he
want to go for tuition and does he see the need? Does he expect to be
having more work to deal with on a weekly basis? What are his views on
the additional workload. Additional steps should be taken to address a
situation whereby the additional workload is not welcomed. 14 ) Know your tuition teacher’s expectations.
Find out what the tuition teacher has in mind for your child and how he sees your child progressing in due time.
Knowing
all these expectations and being aware of them will help you find one
that has all three expectations aligned. On the flip side, it does not
make sense for your child to be in a tuition centre in Serangoon whose
expectations are not aligned with yours and your child’s.
A big tuition group caters to the majority's problems.
Every child has his or her own pace.
A standard curriculum may not be maximising your child's learning potential.
Sometimes, it takes a child a longer duration and at some other times, a shorter duration grasping certain specific concepts.
A standard curriculum that benefits the majority may mean that the
child may not have the the opportunity to truly appreciate and connect
with the subject matter.
A standard class pace in a big tuition group means the child either keeps up or falls behind.
The child's real problems may be overlooked and thus not addressed in a big tuition group.
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY MATH, ENGLISH, SCIENCE & CHINESE TUITION CLASSES : COMMON PROBLEMS OVERLOOKED
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
More often than not, parents are not aware of what goes on in the
tuition classses. They are not kept updated on the progress of the child
in the tuition class. More so, insights that the tuition teacher has
learned about the child are not shared on a regular basis.
LACK OF CUSTOMISATION
Lesson plans are structured to cater to the majority in the whole
class. Thus, lesson plans in the tuition classes are not efficient at
delivering the intended results for each individual student.
CLASS PACE
The learning pace of each child is different whereas the speed of
teaching in most other tuition centres is uniform. Several gaps in
learning may accumulate and may have been overlooked.
ATTENTION
Most tuition classes severely lack in individualised attention as
they are too big. It is difficult for the tuition teachers to be able to
cater to each individual student. The individual student’s unique
strengths and weaknesses are not identified and often the wrong problems
are addressed instead of the student’s actual problems.
WHY KIP MCGRATH TUITION KOVAN IS THE BEST TUITION CENTRE IN KOVAN
SMALL GROUP
Each class has a maximum of 5 students per group and no more. This is in
stark contrast with other centres that try to fit as many as 20
students per group.
GREAT TRACK RECORD
Having been around in Singapore for more than 10 years, our proven
teaching methods have helped tens of thousands of students throughout
Singapore gain confidence and make leaps in their respective subjects.
BEST LEARNING MATERIALS Our large network across more than 20 centres in Singapore and
10 years of experience means we have accumulated and perfected the
techniques and resources that is required so that your child may
improve.
TAILORED LEARNING PROGRAM
Our tuition teacher will devise a structured learning plan for each of the students.
NO PRESSURE TO CONFORM TO CLASS PACE
This is of utmost importance to the students who already have enough
pressure to catch up in school. The students at Kip McGrath Tuition
Centres Kovan are encouraged to ask questions as and when needed. There
is no "class pace" that the child is required to catch up with.
REGULAR UPDATES Our tuition teachers are constantly in
touch with parents to ensure that parents are kept up to date with the
progress of the child.
INDIVIDUALISED ATTENTION
Our tuition classes are not the typical teacher at the front teaching or
lecturing a whole class system. In fact, each student in the tuition
class will be doing his own work according to his own structured lesson
plan.
PROVEN TEACHING METHOD
We continually assess, diagnose and implement customised tuition lesson structures so as to bring out the best in each student.
QUALITY TUITION TEACHERS
All our tuition teachers have been thoroughly screened and trained to implement the proven Kip McGrath methodology.

Our Maths tuition programs for students are designed with an aim to
have a strong grounding for Mathematics to better prepare them for
higher level questions. We understand that students have different
interests and learning abilities. Some of whom will find Mathematics
challenging and others who breeze through the subject. In order, to
maximise each students' potential, we provide a curriculum that is
individualised to support every learner at every stage. Mathematics
underpins many aspects of our every-day activities and we strive to use
these connections to provide a practical approach to enable students in
understanding the subject.
For Primary 1 to Primary 4 students, we aim to develop a deep
understanding and build the foundation for core concepts such as
fractions, decimals, problem solving sums, heuristic sums and model
drawing. All of these are delivered through a quality curriculum that
includes diagnosing areas of strengths and weaknesses, proper
explanation and assessing the students’ understanding through continuous
assessments, such as review questions and tests. This is to ensure
students achieve a level of mastery that will serve them well when
pursuing Mathematics at higher levels.
Primary 5 and 6 syllabus continues the development of the Primary 1
to 4 syllabus with additional concepts introduced. This stage of
teaching focuses on preparing for PSLE . The central focus is
Mathematical problem solving that at times comprise of multiple Maths
concepts. We teach various techniques and heuristic concepts to enable
students to spot and make sense of various Mathematical ideas as well as
their connections and applications.
The Maths programs for Secondary 1 to 5 students aim to prepare
students for their GCSE 'N' and 'O' level exams. We provide personal
coaching and tutorials to develop a deep understanding and build the
foundation for core concepts, such as arithmetics, number forms,
integers, algebra and functions. This will enable students to be
meticulous and precise in answering questions before moving on to more
advanced and challenging questions covered for each topic. All of these
are delivered through a quality curriculum that includes diagnosing
areas of strengths and weaknesses, proper explanation and assessing the
students’ understanding through continuous assessments, such as review
questions and tests. This is to ensure students achieve a level of
mastery that will serve them when pursuing Mathematics at higher
levels.
WHAT STUDENTS & PARENTS HAVE TO SAY
As a student
who has been under Kip McGrath for more than three years, I have to
admit that I have benefited greatly from the teachers here, especially
Mrs Yeo. A dedicated teacher, Mrs Yeo has helped me solve countless
Mathematics questions to work on so that I can practice on my weaker
aspects of Math. Not only Mrs Yeo, but the rest of the other teachers
here are also zealous about teaching and they are often seen fervently
explaining solutions of problems to students. Mrs Yeo has not only
helped me attain an A* in Mathematics, but has also let me gain
confidence in that subject, which results in my deep passion and
interest in it. Mrs Yeo, thank you for your guidance, it will go a long
way! ”
